Help Us Save Normandie Golf Course...
As
you no doubt are aware, the oldest public golf course west of the Mississippi
River in under siege. Litigation is currently underway to enable developers
to eliminate the golf course and construct housing on the site of the course.
We feel that Normandie Golf Course, with its historical significance, storied
past, and the beauty of the rolling hills and mature specimen trees should
remain as not only a local, but a national treasure in the world of golf.
You can read about the history of this course and the efforts of a dedicated committee of citizens (not all of whom are golfers) to save this important part of St. Louis golf history. Please visit the different pages of our site and join us in the fight to Save Normandie Golf Course!

The Annual Save Normandie Rally and Tournament
was held Saturday, August 23. Over 120 golfers turned out for the event, which was held under sunny skies (with about a 15 minute refreshing shower). Everyone enjoyed the day; the old girl showed her teeth in some cases, and all came away with an appreciation of the course and a firm determination to do all possible for her to remain a beautiful and nostalgic reminder of the past. Normandie is truly one of St. Louis' treasures.
Area residents and friends - We need your help! As part of the “Save Normandie Golf Course” battle, we want to kick off a letter-writing campaign to elected officials in the Village of Bel-Nor and the planning firm the village has retained to perform its land-use study. We need to present the case for retaining the current zoning regulations which limit the Normandie property to use as a golf course or a cemetery. Letters should be positive and personal; should speak to the impact of this proposed development on your family and community; and should include your concerns about streets and traffic, water quality and runoff, and loss of green space. It’s important to note that the development of this land is irrevocable – once the trees and open spaces are gone, they can never be recovered. If the developer is unsuccessful in marketing the new homes, our neighborhoods will be severely impacted.
Please address your letters to: 1) Kevin Buchek – Chairman, Bel-Nor Board of Trustees, 8416 Natural Bridge Rd., Bel-Nor, MO 63121, and 2) John Brancaglione, Vice-President, Peckham Guyton Albers & Viets, Inc., 200 North Broadway, St. Louis, MO 63102.
Thanks for your help! If you have any questions, please contact Joe Filla at 382-9724, Anna Hook at 382-5786, or Pat Williams at 381-0120.
If you have not yet done so...please fill out and return our petition.
